This crown jewel along the bluffs was renovated and restored with an upgrade to rooms, public interiors, dining room, and bar. To re-establish a nighttime presence along Ocean Avenue, Spark Studio emphasized the façade features with strategically placed uplighting, accents, and flag lighting to make the colorful details of the 1933 classic stand out along the waterfront amidst other restaurants and other hotels, to reclaim her place as the First Lady of Santa Monica.

Previously illuminated by aging metal halide uplights, the renovation offered the opportunity to re-examine the overall placement of fixtures, update to LED technology, and improve the overall presence of the main building façade, which is now a much smaller companion to the newer high-rise hotel and apartment buildings that line the avenue, to be the most notable.
